Brief

Pontypool RFC is one of the most successful and notable clubs in Welsh Rugby history. They came to us in need of a website to match their on-field performance and prestigious history. The club needed to easily update the fixtures, results, news, statistics and tickets. It would also showcase their history and brimming potential for the future.

Solution

We designed a website which delivers a rich fan experience, increasing engagement and involvement, as well as providing flexible content control. Designing and animating the results, fixtures and statistics to be in a visually engaging way made it more easily consumable for the Pontypool RFC fans.

Results

• Average time on the site increased from 1:12 to 3.43
• Returning visitors increased from 18% to 35%
• 16% increase in weekly website traffic per week
• Best Sporting Website 2016 - Webby Honouree Award

Putting the Fan First

We conducted in-depth research into what the fans wanted from the digital presence. This ensured that they were at the centre of the design process. The website needed to provide a rich experience to fans, bringing relevant and engaging content to the surface. They wanted results, fixtures, player stats and news to be accessible. Doing this in an engaging way made it more consumable for the fans.

The website also needed to support the clubs content strategy, allowing them to create content that would engage the online fan.

“Blue Stag have become a trustworthy extension of our commercial operation and I would happily recommend them to fellow sporting operations. Blue Stag delivered a project that completely aligned with our brief. In light of that, Pontypool RFC will continue to work alongside Blue Stag in future projects. Blue Stag and Pontypool RFC’s collaborative approach was rewarded with the club being presented with a Webby Honouree award – something that we are all highly proud of.”

There’s a rustle in the Welsh woods that has been whispered about for generations. They believe it to be Blue. They say it’s not sasquatch, but Stag. All that’s been spotted is the odd antler in the overgrowth or hoofprint on the forest floor.

We’ve taken matters into our own hands and set up a series of cameras to try and locate Seb the Stag for ourselves. Brave visitor, can you help us in our quest to unravel the mystery and marvel at the myth?
