While Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for many, it’s a lonely time for millions of older people. It can be a time filled with memories of the people they have lost as they have little or no company to help make new memories.
Over the last 20 years in the UK, the number of people over 75 who live alone has increased to 2.2 million. All too often, loneliness is a daily reality for older people, with 40% saying TV is their main source of company.
At Blue Stag, we usually send out Christmas gifts to our clients to wish them a merry xmas and to say thank you for working with us over the last 12 months.
This time, we wanted to do something a little different so instead of sending gifts to clients, we’ve supported the wonderful people at Re-Engage.
For each new client that we have worked with during 2019, we have donated £10 to Re-Engage, who are a charity committed to helping older people engage with their communities. Our donation will give 60 older people friendship and laughter on Christmas Day.
“Re-engage has changed my life. I feel like I have a whole new set of friends to talk to. It's wonderful.”Edith, 93
These local community groups help improve the health, confidence of older people. As well as tackling illness and isolation. Over Christmas, there are over 700 events happening across the UK. If you know an older person who might be feeling a bit lonely this Christmas, let them know about the community groups available near them.
We all have the opportunity to brighten someone’s day or change their life, even small gestures make a huge difference. Whether you invite someone over for a cup of tea, post them a Christmas card, or give somebody a call. Your kindness can make someone’s Christmas.
If you would like to support Re-Engage and the amazing work they do then you can donate to their cause.
We’d like to wish all our clients, partners and friends a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

There’s a rustle in the Welsh woods that has been whispered about for generations. They believe it to be Blue. They say it’s not sasquatch, but Stag. All that’s been spotted is the odd antler in the overgrowth or hoofprint on the forest floor.
We’ve taken matters into our own hands and set up a series of cameras to try and locate Seb the Stag for ourselves. Brave visitor, can you help us in our quest to unravel the mystery and marvel at the myth?Launch forest cam
