Blue Stag's Best of 2018

2018 was a great year for us at Blue Stag: we got to work with amazing clients and create excellent work with Time to Change Wales, Thirdspace, Wales for Europe, Elrha and Youth Business International. We were lucky enough to travel to Barcelona, welcome new team members and experience a thrilling and fulfilling year.

An agency is only good as its team, so we decided to ask our herd what their 2018 highlights were and what they were excited about in the year ahead.

Rojal

Hello! Who are we talking to and what's your role at Blue Stag?
Rojal, Graphic Designer & Videographer.

What was your highlight or highlights of 2018?
My highlights included starting working for Blue Stag a couple weeks after finishing uni, creating It Will Glow content, working with Wales for Europe at Parliament and filming at Burtons Biscuits Factory.

Why were these your highlights of 2018?
I never had a clue what projects to expect straight out of uni so it was awesome to get to work on the above; I learnt a lot as each project went on.

What’s got you excited for 2019?
Starting new projects and developing my skill set.

Nathan

Hello! Who are you and what's your role at Blue Stag?
Nathan, I'm on a Festive Design Placement.

What was your highlight or highlights of 2018? 
Branding for Youth Business International Summit.

Why was this your highlight of 2018?
This is the first project I've got to work on for Blue Stag and it was great to be involved.

What’s got you excited for 2019?
Finishing my degree and starting my career!

Rhi

Hello! Who are you and what's your role at Blue Stag?
Bad Gal Rhi Rhi, Marketing & Strategy Manager. 

What was your highlight or highlights of 2018? 
OFFF Festival in Barcelona!

Why was this your highlight of 2018?
We had a week in Barcelona (my favourite city) and attended OFFF, which was awesome. We got to see so many inspirational and talented speakers, including the legend Steffan Sagmeister! We also enjoyed eating tapas and working from a balcony with sun and Sangria.

What’s got you excited for 2019?
My CIM course will be in full swing and I'm looking forward to finishing that and getting my Level 6 diploma in professional marketing.

Blue Stag is also growing at the moment, and I'm really excited in the direction we are heading with a talented, passionate team.

Dan

Hello! Who are you and what's your role at Blue Stag?
My name is Dan and I colour things in for a living.

What was your highlight or highlights of 2018? 
Helping to create It Will Glow.

Why was this your highlight of 2018?
I loved working on a project that had so much creative freedom. Cardiff has a vibrant and rapidly growing creative scene and we wanted to tap into that energy and to create something that hadn't been seen before. The brief was to help brand a new event but we also wanted to challenge the perception of 'creativity': it's about imagination and thinking differently, and not defined by how you dress, what you do for a living, or your skill with a paintbrush.

I'd say the most rewarding part of the process for me was the people that I got to meet and talk to. The design industry means we're often confined to a desk but this gave me an opportunity to meet some pretty incredible people and other creatives.

What’s got you excited for 2019?
The next It Will Glow event happening in early 2019. It's going to be huge (hopefully).

Amy

Hello! Who are you and what's your role at Blue Stag?
Amy, Lead Designer.

What was your highlight or highlights of 2018? 
While I had a lot of highlights throughout 2018, working on the Give DIFFerently campaign is one of the top ones.

Why was this your highlight of 2018?
Homelessness is a massive issue right now, especially in Cardiff. We were asked by Cowshed to help create an identity for a campaign called Give DIFFerently, to encourage people living and visiting Cardiff to think differently about how they can give to those who are begging, homeless or at risk of homelessness. As well as creating the identity, we created materials for both print and digital, to ask for donations via the website and through texting. We then helped to design an interactive digital donation installation which was placed on the Hayes in Cardiff, featuring a video from Sam Warburton. People passing the installation could use their contactless card to donate £2 which was then match funded.

I enjoyed being part of a campaign which would be impacting people that I see every day, hopefully providing them with support and a way to leave the streets behind for good.

What’s got you excited for 2019?
Continuing to work with our existing clients - we have some pretty exciting projects in the pipeline!  Of course I'm also looking forward to new projects and clients that will pop up.

Hello! Who are you and what's your role at Blue Stag?
My name's Joseph and I'm the Creative Copywriter at Blue Stag.

What was your highlight or highlights of 2018? 
Living in Amsterdam and then moving back and getting to work at Blue Stag right away!

Why was this your highlight of 2018?
Living in Amsterdam was always a dream of mine so getting to explore and enjoy it and meet a bunch of lovely people during my trip for the bulk of 2018 was amazing. Coming back to the UK after that adventure and getting to start work with an agency like Blue Stag is pretty awesome.

What’s got you excited for 2019?
Helping a load of worthwhile organisations tell their story.

Paul

Hello! Who are you and what's your role at Blue Stag?
I'm Paul Dean and I'm a Web Developer at Blue Stag.

What was your highlight or highlights of 2018? 
The ThirdSpace website project.

Why was this your highlight of 2018?
I feel as though it is my best work this year and is the project I'm most proud of. 

I was on board as a front-end developer, responsible for the recreating the look and feel of the design that Dan created in code.

I feel as though it was my best work for a few reasons: firstly in how accurately it replicated the original design and also the standard of the code written and how well the website performs and scales responsively to mobile devices. I was really happy with the project!

What’s got you excited for 2019?
The opportunity to continue to expand and improve my skill set as a developer.
