It's Vine, Absolutely Vine

End of the loop...

The end of October came, along with the end of a short, impactful era for one of the most successful free apps of the decade. Yes, get your mini violins out, our beloved Vine is set to be no more.

Twitter made the announcement on the 27th October that the six-second video looping app would be discontinued in the coming months. The micro-blogging site, who acquired Vine in October 2012, before the app’s official launch in January 2013, have undergone their own setbacks, announcing on the same day plans to cut the workforce by 9% (roughly 350 employees), and not surprisingly, its weakest acquisitions were in the firing line.

Vine’s peak came in 2013, immediately after its launch, but with recent advances from Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram, including their extensive advertising power, they have somewhat eroded away at Vine’s presence as a major video sharing service.

Understandably there was a frenzy from its users, vine stars, and community of fans which have given, and seen thousands of six-second snapshots over the past three years.

So hey, Twitter, why not just sell Vine off to free up a bit of cash? It seems the figures coming in were under the $10 million mark, substantially lower than the $30 million Twitter paid in 2012. But, now that companies have come pecking on the Twitter door and shown an interest in acquiring the service, they may well make a turnaround decision.

So what’s next for the future of video sharing?

Vine may well be hanging up its hat pretty soon, but its creators haven’t given up on their broadcasting feat. They’ve developed a new live broadcasting app, to compete with the likes of Facebook Live and Twitter’s own live app Periscope. Meow.

The HYPE app allows users to add music, animations, comments and photos to their live videos, which can be shared with friends, offering an ability to include varying multimedia content in one post.

Over and out, Vine

To pay homage to the app which propelled comedians, musicians and saw talents and trends evolve beyond our phones, we wanted to remember some of the best from the past three years…

There was that one with the rooster fight...

The famous parody's of Drake the delivery guy...

The ones with the kids we can relate to...

The animals with endless talents...

And the birth of the internet sensation...Birdyoncé...

The lion called Miley...

That really clever one...

And that guy everyone is talking about...
